Leura sits just east of Katoomba at a similar altitude, laid out around the Mall with mature street trees on almost every road. It is one of the prettiest villages in the mountains and, for a tow truck, one of the more constrained: the streets are narrow, the kerbs are lined with parked cars most of the day, and the tree canopy is low in places.
Weekend congestion is the defining feature. When the Mall is busy the surrounding streets fill completely, and a vehicle that will not start in the middle of that is a manoeuvring problem before it is a mechanical one. The cold-weather issues that affect Katoomba apply here too, since the two villages sit at much the same height.
Gordon Falls Road and the run out towards Sublime Point narrow considerably as they approach the lookouts, with limited turning room at the far end. Getting to a vehicle out there is straightforward; getting a loaded truck back out again is the part that takes planning, so it is worth telling us how far along the road you are.
