Mount Victoria is the last village at the top of the range before the Great Western Highway drops down Victoria Pass towards the Hartley Valley. The Darling Causeway heads north from here towards Bell and the Bells Line of Road, which makes the village a genuine junction rather than just another stop along the highway.
This is the coldest and most exposed part of our service area. Winter conditions here are consistently harsher than anywhere further east along the range, and the combination of altitude, wind and shade means ice lingers on some sections well into the morning.
Victoria Pass is the defining feature. It is a steep, winding descent with tight bends and a long sustained gradient, and it is one of the hardest stretches of road in the mountains on brakes and transmissions.
